INTRODUCTION:
ARO(Aid for Refugees and Orphans) Pakistan is a locally registered NGO, and successor of Orphans, Refugees and Aid (ORA) International which is an international non-profit, non-government organization with its headquarter in Germany. ARO Pakistan is "Non Profit" organization registered with Joint Registrar of Firms & Societies under the societies Act XXI of 1860. ARO Pakistan is contributing in development process through its projects in many sectors for host community in various parts of NWFP Province in Pakistan. ARO Pakistan with its Headoffice in Peshawar launched its projects in Peshawar, Earthquake affected areas of NWFP, Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs) of Peshawar, Mardan and Swat and now in war affected areas of Swat, Dir and Buneer.
What We DO:
Our mission is to have sustainable development in Pakistan by bringing societal tranformation. In order to acheive this we primarily working on these sectors:-
Education:
- Construction of schools
- Adult literacy Programs (especially women)
- Encouraging and mobilizing communities to increase enrollment
Health:
- Promoting health and hygiene techniques
- Providing First Aid Trainings
- Improvement in Maternal Health
- Decreasing infant mortality rate
- Raising awareness regarding HIV Aids and other disease
Women Empowerment:
- Gender mainstreaming
- Include women in decision making.
- Women Empowerment
- Women trainings
PAKISTAN ...
In the night of the 22.July 2010. Baluchistan, the poverty stricken province has witnessed a flash flood in its lower areas especially in district Sibbi and Kohlo Barkhan.
Aro team immediatly got in to action and visited U/C Talli which is the most affected union council in District Sibbi. carrying out an assessment of lose we also started the distribution of cooked food among the poor affected people.
Once again on Thursday 27 July rivers burst their banks during monsoon rains, washing away streets, battering a dam and killing at least 900 people in most severe floods in decades in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Hundreds of thousands more were stranded as rescue workers struggled to reach far-flung villages.
As flood hit in KPK, our team started distribution of relief on dated 29.07. We have also carried out an assessment on the 30.08.2010 in the most affected districts Peshawar, Nowshrera and Charsadda and found the most devastating destruction in the the Union councils Dheri Khazana in PSW and U/Cs Agra ,Hisara Yaseenzai and Nissata in Charsadda and one is in Tehsil Tangi name Mirzadhar. The areas of Aza Khail and Nowshera Kalan and Pir Sabbat are also one the worst affected areas. The population affected in these areas alone exceeds 650.000 individuals many of them children most of them badly effected by the flash flood. The most destructed villages are Touda Khazana , Banry , Shaikh kilay, Shammusddin Kalay, Shagari, Gidar Kalay, Haeenabad, Zia Kalay, Daang Qilla, Dildar Kalay, Gari Byar, Sanger, Mirzadher, Essagai , Prang, Loundou, Pir Sabaq , Nowshera Kalan, Aza Khail and Gari Mian sahib. The catastrophe caused in these villages that over 171 people died including 33 children and 29 women drowned in the water. 90% of the houses are totally destroyed and people are waiting without any aid or support on road side. The standing crops on almost 96,743 acres have been destroyed. Crops mainly include maize, sorghum, fodder, sugarcane, vegetables as well as orchards and fuel wood trees. A large number of fruit trees have been uprooted and washed away increasing the vulnerability of small landholders and livestock owners. The floods have also damaged water infrastructure and drinking water sources in the most affected areas. All drinking water sources are destroyed or damaged as the already frail electricity infrastructure is as well.The Children of Pak German Model School are also participating in relief activities which is a training in respect of working for humanity.
